At Ubud, Bali's cultural heart, you'll walk through the Monkey Forest where the mischievous inhabitants swing from trees and come begging for nuts. At sunset you'll visit an ocean-side temple and learn about the island's Hindu heritage as you watch a fascinating performance of traditional dance.

On the unspoilt north coast you'll hop aboard a boat to spot dolphins at sunrise and then laze by the beach or pool; optional activities include snorkelling, horse-riding or visits to nearby hot springs and a turtle hatchery. On to Tirtagangga with its tapestry of green terraces which tumble down the hillsides. After a swim at the Water Palace, you'll amble through rice fields to a small village to see silversmiths crafting jewellery. Climb Mt Batur at sunrise - with breakfast at the volcano's peak - before spending the night with a Balinese family. A final few days relaxing on the beach bring the adventures to an end.

Other info: Minimum age: 5 years An active trip, but with plenty of opportunities for relaxing. Bali can be hot and humid in the summer. The Mt Batur climb is quite tough and as it's early morning, cold - wrap up warm. Strong / comfortable footwear essential.
